Being heavenly minded gives you real purpose here on earth. Today’s scripture look will be in Colossians 3.
Sure you can justify how people should be focus on their purpose here on earth as a believer and not keep their head in the clouds over wishful thinking of a future heavenly life. But the fact is that as admirable as this may sound it is completely unscriptural.
Heavenly Minded Direction
The reason many may feel as though they walk with little direction here on earth as believers is because they are not heavenly minded at all. Scriptures says in Colossians 3:1,2
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
When you understand that your heart is set on things above, being Christ, you then mortify lusts that have been the cause of many a distraction. You begin to have a real desire to put off sin and put on the new man which desires holiness, mercy, kindness, has humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, willing to forbear and is forgiving (Col 3:12,13).
When the focus is on the heavenly you will have a love that comes from above (Col 3:14). Your heart will be filled with peace and your attitude will be thankful.
His word will abound in all wisdom. There will be a desire to teach and admonish others. Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs will be in your heart as you sing with grace to the Lord.
Being truly heavenly minded, focused on Christ, that all you do in word or deed you will do with a thankful attitude.
Earthly Purpose
As you read the following verses in Colossians 3:18-23 you will discover the incredible earthly purpose you do have when you are heavenly minded:
- Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
- Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
- Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
- Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
- Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
- And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Definite Calling
When you understand that you are to be heavenly minded so that you can be used on earth then you know you have a definate calling. There is a rest and trust in God that nothing can compare.
That does not mean you will not face challenges or discourament but you can usually tell that when you do become discouraged it is because your focus on the heavenly has been moved. More than likely you have become more focused on the earthly so much so you lose your definate sense of direction.
So purpose today to be heavenly minded so you can be used of God here on earth
Many blessing to you,
