I was blessed as a 10 year old girl to have a music teacher in public school who lovingly demanded excellence from his music students. I tried out for the choir and did not make it, but she did not stop there.
She equipped me with all I needed to improve my singing. In all actuallity I had not idea how to sing at all but she gave me some excercises that would help. Her desire of excellence turned someone like myself who knew nothing about singing into a soloist by the following year.
What happened?
When she desired more for me than what I knew possible and equipped me to do it, then all that was left was my willingness to receive it and passionately apply what she offered me.
She impacted my life. Now as a believer in Jesus Christ music has become so much a part of my worship. I enjoy singing in the choir but although I may not sing solos in front of others I do spiritually in the presence of my beloved Lord and King.
Our dear Lord, in the same way as music teacher, called my heart to excellence…a perfect and sinless life for the glory of God. Oh how, I fall so short each time. But you know what?
God equips us with all we need in his precious son Jesus Christ. His blood sacrifice cleanses us from ALL our sins. Our Father gives us a new heart so that Jesus himself can come in and abide by the power of his Holy Spirit. Now the life I live I live by the faith of the son who loved me and gave himself for me (Gal 2:20).
“Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.” Psalm 148:13
The excellence of all the universe, Jesus Christ, lives the perfect, sinless life in me to make a difference in the lives of others for the glory of God our Father!
Oh what a privilege, how humbling that a thrice holy God would consider me, one who was so lost and undone to bring me to himself that He may be my all-in-all for his glory! A shining light of the world that others may see the great glory of Jesus Christ and be saved.
“All excellence involves, discipline and tenacity of purpose.” ~John W. Gardner
What greater purpose than to live for the one who died and gave all for me?
To God be all the glory!
